Most people working in companies will have to attend office parties once in a while. While parties are great to help enhance the
relationships we have with our colleagues, many actually felt awkward when attending them. Without knowing and understanding the right
office party etiquette, you may easily step on someone's shoe unintentionally.
Here are some party etiquette tips to help you.
Alcohol Consumption
Keep in mind that this is an office affair so you might do well to watch your alcohol consumption. While it is perfectly fine to have a few
drinks, it is not alright to get drunk. It does not say much about you and you are definitely not showing much respect to your superiors.
Interact Well
An office party provides that once in a lifetime opportunity for you to showcase your interests with your peers and other senior managers.
If you know someone who has the same interest as yours, do feel free to approach them and chat. Remember that this is one chance
you get in an informal setting.
Keep The Conversation Going
While chatting with others, be mindful not to monopolize the entire conversation. It is important to mingle around and you will definitely
not impress anyone if you insist that everyone hear your story, especially when it is not of interest to them.
Show Appreciation
Nothing is better than a simple thank you to the party organizers. You can truly make their day by showing that you appreciate their
efforts and time in organizing the party for your office. On the same note, be on time for the party. Being late does not speak well of your
manners and appreciation for the organizers. I would recommend that you be there early so that you can get to mingle around before the
crowd comes in.
Dress Appropriately
Depending on the theme of the party, you need to dress suitably. While you do not have to wear a suit and tie, you should not dress
down or too casually. Torn jeans and sneakers may not be appropriate. When in doubt, ask. If that is not possible, chose to go with
dark denim. You can also wear a nice top to go with it. A nice pair of casual shoes will see you through the
party usually.
Remember, you can have a great time at the party with your peers. Just remember to keep your office party etiquette in check.
