Office Christmas Party Activities
You may agree with me that Christmas is probably one of holidays that is very popular. For many companies, it is one great occasion to celebrate. However, with greater diversity in the company, when celebrating such an occasion, we need to be sensitive to our colleagues' feelings.
A party that has too much religious overtones may offend a colleague who is non-Christian. On the other hand, a party that has too much
of Santa Claus and such may offend a Christian colleague. It is best to have a balance and have a little of everything. If you are unsure of
your company' s preference, do ask around.
You can easily discover any special needs and concerns by requesting that people with
certain needs and concerns make those known after they have received their invitation. Alternatively, seek out the opinions of the senior management. They are likely to have a better idea of what is possible and what is not.
Go for activities that are neutral and common. An example can be exchanging gifts. This is where everyone can bring in their own gifts and the
company can provide small gifts and candy to all. It can be a meaningful activity as everyone pays tribute to someone in the company. Most of us love to be appreciated by someone. When done properly, most of your colleagues would be leaving your party much happier and definitely would be looking forward to a brand new year with the company.
When preparing for food, go for whatever your colleagues prefer. If you have difficulty, either settle for pot luck or cater. Make it convenient for all to participate. For alcohol, it is a bit tricky. You should check with your company
policy. The best people would be your seniour management. If you get the okay, be sure to have taxi service or designated drivers on
stand by. You never know when someone may just have too much alcohol to drink at the party and is not able to drive themselves home.
As you can see, with some planning and preparation, your office Christmas party activities can be a great success and you and your team can be proud of it.
Office Party Tip #1
Depending on the theme of the party, you need to dress suitably. While you do not have to wear a suit and tie, you should not dress
down or too casually. Torn jeans and sneakers may not be appropriate. When in doubt, ask. |
Office Party Tip #2
Tell jokes that are entertaining but not rude. When in doubt, don't. Often when people think they are entertaining, they are not.
Remember that what seems funny to one person can be offensive to someone else. |
Office Party Tip #3
Show Appreciation. Nothing is better than a simple thank you to the party organizers. You can truly make their day by showing that you appreciate their
efforts and time in organizing the party for your office. |
