According to a recent poll, many employees deem that office parties as boring and "stiff" affairs. Truth to be told, this need not be so. With a bit
of creativity, office party games can be a fun way to break the ice and loosen things up.
Here are some ideas to get you started.
The easiest way to liven things up is to have games that are related to the theme of the party. For example, if your party theme is
Hollyword, you can play the Guess the Movie Game. For famous people, you can play the statue game. Of course, you need not restrict
yourself. Remember the guiding principle should be to set the mood right so that your co-workers will have a blast at the party. Below are
some game ideas to get your creative juices going.
Guess the Movie
Before the party, have the names of several well-known movies on slips of paper. Get your guests to pair up. Choose one pair to be the
first actors. They must pick a slip and enact a scene from the movie written on it. The others must guess which the movie is. The one
that guesses correctly first will be awarded points. Continue to play until each pair had a chance to be the actors.
The pair with the highest points will get a prize for winning.
One Liners From Movies
Before the party, jot down bits of quotes from popular movies like "I'll be back" from Terminator. During the party, read out
these quotes one at a time, with the guests having to guess which movie it is from. A point is awarded to whoever guesses correctly. When all quotes have been used, the player who has the most points becomes the winner. To make it more challenging, extra points can be given if they
can name the character, actor or actress who said it or if bonus points can be given if they can impersonate the actor or actress well.
Statue
Once the party started, you can explain the rules of the game. One of you is selected to be the statue. At a certain point of the party,
this person must turn into a statue, in the middle of whatever he or she may be doing. When others begin noticing, they too turn
will freeze and become statue. The last person to freeze will be the next statue or has to perform as a forfeit. It is a funny game
when you see people having to turn into statues in the middle of their meals or conversation.
Give It To Me
Similar to Scavenger hunt, this is a fairly simple game. Get a caller to go in front of the room, and call out the names of various items,
like:
* A dollar note
* A black sock
* A brown belt
* A book
* A black hair
Whoever runs up first with any of the items gets a prize.
As you can see, office party games need not be complicated. With proper planning and execution, your company will definitely have a
good time playing these games. Do remember to prepare some prizes for the winners. Everyone loves to go home a winner.
Here is an interesting party gadget-
Ice Luge. I'm sure it will add spice to any party.
Office Party Tip #1
Depending on the theme of the party, you need to dress suitably. While you do not have to wear a suit and tie, you should not dress
down or too casually. Torn jeans and sneakers may not be appropriate. When in doubt, ask. |
Office Party Tip #2
Tell jokes that are entertaining but not rude. When in doubt, don't. Often when people think they are entertaining, they are not.
Remember that what seems funny to one person can be offensive to someone else. |
Office Party Tip #3
Show Appreciation. Nothing is better than a simple thank you to the party organizers. You can truly make their day by showing that you appreciate their
efforts and time in organizing the party for your office. |
